PCPO Poll Of Palestinians 30.7% for FATAH 54% support suicide attacks, 50%
continue Intafada, 63.6% oppose Saudi initiative without right of return

A Public Opinion Survey carried out by the PCPO and prepared by
Dr. Nabil Kukali

63.6% oppose the Saudi initiative in case it did not include the right of
return to the Palestinian refugees.
54.0% support the continuation of the suicide attacks, and (30.8%)
oppose.
50.2% support to varying degrees the peace process.
50.8% believe that both Palestinians and Israelis have the right to live
in peace and security.
50.0% support the continuation of the Intifada, and 38.4% support a halt
to it.
42.1% believe to varying degrees that the Intifada has harmed Palestinian
interests.
50.1% support starting serious and sincere negotiations between the
Palestinians and Israelis.

A poll was conducted by the PCPO and prepared by President Dr. Nabil
Kukali, included a random sample of (1181) Palestinian adults, 18 years and
older, from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank including East Jerusalem. The
poll reveals that (54.0%) of the Palestinians support the continuation of
suicide attacks inside Israel, while (30.8%) call for a halt to them, and
(15.2%) refrain from answering. When asked "Do you or not believe that both
the Palestinians and the Israelis have the right to live in peace and
security"? Almost half of the Palestinians (50.8%) give a positive answer,
while (35.5%) give a negative answer, and (13.7%) say "Do not know".

President of the PCPO, Dr. Nabil Kukali, stated that the poll was
carried out May 22 - 28, 2002, and that the margin of error was ± 2.85
percent points. The Director of Public Relations at the PCPO, Dr. Walid
Shomaly, stated that the percentage of female respondents was (48.2%), while
that of male ones reached (51.8%). Dr. Shomaly added that the composition of
the sample according to location of residence was as follows: (50.2%) city
dwellers, (15.4%) village, and (14.3%) of refugee camps. He pointed out to
the fact that the average size of the respondent households was (7.29)
persons, while the average age of the respondents was (31.73) years. The
non-response rate was (0.5%). Dr. Shomaly showed the results as follows:

starting honest and serious negotiations between the Palestinians and
Israelis will bring peace to the region?

3. Do you or not see a possibility for both Israelis and Palestinians to
coexist peacefully together after a Palestinian state alongside with Israel

to live in peace and security:

5. Some people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip support suicide attacks in

right of return for Palestinian refugees in Israel?
