SAUDIS SEEK F-15 UPGRADE

SAUDIS SEEK F-15 UPGRADE

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in upgrading much
of its F-15 fleet.

Industry sources said Riyad has raised the issue with the United States as
well as with the Boeing Co., the manufacturer of the F-15. The sources said
the kingdom has not entered into formal negotiations over the issue.

In 1981, Saudi Arabia procured 91 F-15C/D fighter-jets from the United
States. About 80 of the aircraft remain in service.

The sources said Riyad wants to improve avionics and weapons payload of the
F-15C/D. They said the upgrade would not include either the engine or the
structure of the aircraft.
