In the latest economical survey prepared by Dr. Nabil Kukali and conducted
by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCPO) in the period December
(20 - 24) 2004 during different working hours, a random sample at the size
of (1100) Palestinian adults from the West Bank, incl. East Jerusalem, and
Gaza Strip was chosen. All interviews in that survey were carried out face
to face inside the respondents' homes, the choice of which is randomly
performed according to PCPO's long experienced scientific methodology. The
sampling error throughout the survey is found at (+/-2.95%). The percentage
of female respondents was (47.9%) whilst that of the male ones was (52.1%).
The distribution of the random sample among the residential areas of the
respondents was (65.4%) in the West Bank, incl. East Jerusalem, and (34.6%)
in Gaza Strip. Dr. Kukali said that the average size of the respondent
families was (7.5) individuals, and the number of schooling years for the
respondents was (11.8) years.
"The most significant results of this survey", commented Dr. Nabil Kukali is
that the majority of the Palestinian people evaluated their financial
standing during the year 2004 as bad". Dr. Kukali added further that "there
is a certain optimism in the improvement of the people's economical
situation during the next year 2005 since the majority of the Palestinians
expect that the elected PA president would give the economic situation of
the people a special dedication after so many announcements and promises
made on this issue by the presidential candidates He added that "55.5% of
the respondents believe that Al-Aqsa Intifada was at various degrees a
disadvantage to their economical interests". Dr. Kukali concluded his
interpretations saying "the Palestinians are generally satisfied with the
services rendered by the banks operating in the territories of the
Palestinian Authority".
