Sixty-nine percent of Americans have a favorable view of Israel, according
to a new Gallup poll. The figure is 10 percentage points higher than it was
in February 2004, but shy of the 79% who had a favorable of view of Israel
during the 1991 Gulf War. Twenty-five percent of Americans said they had an
unfavorable view of Israel.

A large majority of Americans - 62% - said they viewed the Palestinian
Authority unfavorably. Twenty-seven percent said they had a favorable
opinion of the PA, the highest recorded by Gallup since it began measuring
the item in 2000.

Fifty-two percent of Americans said their sympathies were with Israel in the
dispute with the Palestinians, while 18% said they were more sympathetic to
the Palestinians.

The survey of 1,008 adults was conducted by phone in early February and had
a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
