Apparent smuggling tunnel uncovered: During an engineering operation
conducted near the Israeli- Egyptian border, south of Rafah, A tunnel of 8
meters depth and assumed length of several hundred meters was uncovered.

[IMRA: Israel Television Channel Two defense affairs correspondent Ronnie
Daniel noted that the tunnel walls were reinforced with cement so as not to
collapse when subjected to nearby explosions - a technique Israel uses to
collapse tunnels. He also pointed out that the tunnel was apparently
"constructed from the Egyptian side - under the noses of the Egyptians - who
do not do anything to stop the smuggling operations."]
