IDF soldier killed, four wounded, in a coordinated Hezbollah attack in
northern Israel
(Communicated by the IDF Spokesperson's Office)
29 June 2005

An IDF soldier was killed, an IDF officer was moderately wounded and three
IDF soldiers were lightly wounded as the Hezbollah terrorist organization
carried out a coordinated attack at an IDF force and at IDF posts in the
area of Mount Dov, inside Israel yesterday, June 29, 2005. The soldiers'
families have been notified.

Yesterday afternoon, Hezbollah organization fired dozens of mortar shells
from Lebanese territory at IDF posts on Mount. Dov and Mount. Hermon. An IDF
soldier was killed and three IDF soldiers were lightly wounded in the
attack.

Simultaneously, an IDF force identified a Hezbollah terrorist cell that
crossed the international Israeli-Lebanese border and infiltrated Israel. An
IDF soldier was moderately wounded as fire exchanges erupted between the
terror cell and an IDF force. The IDF force returned fire and identified
hitting one Hezbollah terrorist. The wounded soldier was evacuated to a
hospital for further medical treatment.

Following the attack, the IAF targeted five Hezbollah outposts in southern
Lebanon, from which attacks at Israeli targets are carried out.
Later on, an IDF force identified the Hezbollah terrorist cell inside
Israel, opened fire at the cell and identified hitting one of the
terrorists. IDF forces are currently conducting searches in the area.
The Hezbollah terrorist organization tries to justify its existence as an
armed organization in the face of the internal Lebanese pressures.
The Lebanese government is held responsible for the deterioration of the
security situation caused by the freedom of action granted to Hezbollah, in
contradiction to the interest of the Middle-East and the international
community.

The IDF will continue to take measures against any organization carrying out
terrorist activity against Israel, in order to protect Israeli civilians.
The Lebanese government should take responsibility for the Israeli-Lebanese
border, and prevent terrorist organizations, led by the Hezbollah, from
deteriorating the situation in the area.
