GAZA, Palestine, September 5, 2005 (IPC + WAFA) - - President Mahmoud Abbas
headed on Sunday a meeting for Fateh movement's Central Committee, in which
he discussed with the committee members the latest field developments and
the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza Strip and northern West Bank.

The committee listened to reports, during the meeting in Gaza City, from
different departments, regarding the organization of Fateh's upcoming
revolutionary assembly, along with the preparation for the movement's sixth
general convention.

On the other hand, President Abbas also visited the Islamic University in
Gaza (IUG) along with a delegation of Palestinian Authority officials, in
order to inaugurate the university's new administration building and learn
about the recent developments in the university's facilities and academic
standards.

"I'm happy to visit such a Palestinian academic monument that is the pride
of the Palestinian people. This monument, which was built on the foundations
of religion and Islam, has been keen on raising Palestinian generations
well," the President said, addressing the gathering at IUG.

Referring to the lands Israel would evacuate in Gaza Strip, President Abbas
said that 97.5 percent of these lands were state-owned lands, pointing out
that the Islamic University was entitled to receive lands in order to expand
its facilities and carry out its noble duty.

On his part, the President of the IUG, Dr. Kamalein Shaath, welcomed the
visit of President Abbas and his accompanying delegation, highly valuing
this visit and asserting that the university has extended its services to
the Palestinian community for more than 25 years.

"Currently we have 16,000 students enrolled in the university, and we're
always holding research workshops and conferences to discuss the burdens on
our people," Dr. Shaath said.

Following his visit to the university and its different sections, IUG
president and members of the board of trustees presented President Abbas
with the university's emblem and the Islamic University Decoration in
recognition of his efforts.
