Iran, Japan agree to promote bilateral cooperation

Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Mohammad-Reza Baqeri in
a meeting with his Japanese ounterpart on Saturday agreed to expand mutual
cooperation.

Baqeri, who is in Japan to attend Forth Tokyo International Conference on
African Development (TICAD IV), outlined Iran's key role in establishing
peace in the region and providing stability in Tajikistan, Afghanistan and
Iraq in his meeting with Yasuhide Nakayama.

Explaining Iran's position in the region and its cordial relations with
neighbouring countries, Baqeri added that peace and stability in the region
would benefit the whole world.

Nevertheless, the US is creating crises in the region and then offer
solutions to them in order to portray itself as a global hero, he said.

Baqeri also invited Nakayama to visit Iran which was accepted by the
Japanese official.

Nakayama, for his part, appreciated Iran's efforts to establish peace,
stability and security in the region as well as its key role in the
Middle-East region.

The Japanese deputy foreign minister also admired the presence of the
Iranian delegation headed by Baqeri in TICAD IV.

Besides, the two sides held talks on the importance of Iran-Japan mutual
ties in various fields including Tokyo conference and some other issues.

The Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV)
which opened on May 28 in the presence of presidents and prime ministers of
51 African countries wound up on Saturday.
