[AL: Under the compromise, in return for Labor not supporting a vote against
the Government yesterday, the Kadima Party set primaries for election of a
new party chairman this September. While preliminary reports indicated that
the understanding/assumption was that this meant someone would replace
Olmert as not only head of Kadima in September but also as PM, it developed
later that PM Olmert himself intends to run in the primaries and that even
if he does not run that he does not intend to step down from the position of
PM after the primaries in September - this since he only promised to resign
if indicted.
While these later developments were reported, it is far from clear that most
of the people being polled were aware that the deal does not insure Olmert
leaves his post in September. It would have been useful to include a follow
up question asking people how they feel about the deal if it does not mean
Olmert is leaving.].
