[Dr. Aaron Lerner - IMRA: So Secretary of State Rice can break out the
champagne. The illegal Fatah militia, Al-Aqsa Brigades, is now "fully
integrated into the West Bank and the Gaza Strip security departments." And
this is supposed to insure that the PA security forces can deliver on
fighting terror?]

Ramallah - Ma'an - In a statement issued Friday by the Al-Aqsa Brigades, the
armed wing of Fatah, a spokesperson claimed that the two projectiles
launched at Zekim were not, in fact, launched by Al-Aqsa Brigades members.
Rather, said Fatah spokesman Ahmad Abd Ar-Rahman, a letter claiming the
attack was sent out using the logo of the Brigades.
Brigades are, according to the Ar-Rahman, are fully integrated into the West
Bank and the Gaza Strip security departments, which support the current
truce agreement and will not thus fire projectiles.
The security departments were unified last year by a decree issued by
President Mahmoud Abbas.
Ar-Rahman went further in his statement and "denounced anyone violating the
truce." He called for all factions to make a "full commitment to it to stop
attacks and thereby the siege imposed on the Palestinians in the Gaza
Strip." He added that on account of this situation, any attacks claimed by
the brigades should be regarded as "suspicious."
The false report claimed act was retaliatory
The initial statement claiming the attack for the Al-Aqsa Brigades had said
that the attack was in response to Israeli violations of the Gaza truce,
including the assassination of 32-year-old Fatah resistance fighter Talal
Sa'id Abed, who was shot dead in Jenin on Wednesday and the killing of
18-year-old Salim Jum'a Hamidi, who was shot near the Kissufim crossing on
Thursday.
The false statement said the projectile attack was not aimed at disrupting
the truce but was to avenge the Palestinians killed in the West Bank and
Gaza Strip since the truce began on June 19.
