PLO Condemns Hamas Crackdown on Women March in Gaza

RAMALLAH, November 7, 2012 (WAFA) - The PLO strongly condemned Wednesday the
violent crackdown by Hamas forces on a women march in Gaza.

Women activists participated in a march in central Gaza on Tuesday to
protest the division and to call for return to national unity.

A statement issued by the PLO’s Cultural and Information Department said
“beating of women, including female journalists and other women
participating in this peaceful march who were calling for national unity is
a blatant violation of human rights and shows a lack of seriousness on Hamas’
part to bring an end to the current division.”

It said the division “brought major damage” to the struggle of the
Palestinian people and to their just cause.

The PLO called on Hamas and its forces to put an end to these actions and to
allow freedom of speech. It also called for an investigation into the
assault at the demonstrators and to bring those responsible for the attacks
to justice.
