Cabinet Communique

Cabinet Communique
(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)
At the weekly Cabinet meeting today (Sunday, 18 November 2012):

1. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the following remarks:

"By now the IDF has attacked over 1,000 terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip
and it is continuing its operations as we speak. It is achieving significant
hits on weapons aimed at Israeli citizens, as well as on those who use these
weapons and those who dispatch them. We are exacting a heavy price from
Hamas and the [other] terrorist organizations, and the IDF is prepared for a
significant expansion of its operations.

Today as well, I will continue to speak with world leaders

. I appreciate the understanding that they are showing for Israel's right to
defend itself. In my talks with the leaders, I emphasize the effort Israel
is making to avoid hitting civilians

and this at a time when Hamas and the [other] terrorist organizations are
making every effort to hit civilian targets in Israel

security of its citizens, and we are acting in accordance with this
obligation.

I repeat and praise the restraint, determination and resilience of Israel's
citizens on the home front, and I repeat my request to all of you to follow
the instructions from IDF Home Front Command because it saves lives.

The operation in the Gaza Strip

impressive mobilization of the reservists who have come from all over the

soldiers are ready for any order they might receive."

The Cabinet today (Sunday, 18 November 2012), approved the establishment, in
Jerusalem, of a hall for the Hebrew language. This is in the framework of a
series of decisions in order to strengthen the status of the Hebrew
language.

According to the Cabinet's decision, the 21st of the Hebrew month of Tevet,
the birthday of Eliezer Ben-Yehuda

, will be recognized as "Hebrew Language Day". On this day, the Prime
Minister will award a special Eliezer Ben-Yehuda Memorial Prize for
strengthening the status of the Hebrew language. The awarding of the prize
will be in the framework of an annual conference to be held in Jerusalem and
which will deal with the Hebrew language. According to the Government
decision, medals will be awarded annually to people who have made important
contributions to the status of, and research regarding, the Hebrew language.
Emphasis will also be placed on special educational activities in schools
and the IDF, alongside similar activities in the Diaspora.

The hall for the Hebrew language will preserve, develop and promote research
regarding the treasures of knowledge, the heritage and the culture of the
Hebrew language, and will attract visitors. NIS 500,000 has been allocated
for its planning, in addition to NIS 400,000 from the World Zionist
Organization and NIS 300,000 from the Municipality of Jerusalem.

Given that Hebrew is the language of the Jewish People, the Cabinet has
directed the Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Ministry to submit
recommendations for creating tools to make Hebrew more accessible,
especially to non-Hebrew speaking communities. This will be via virtual
lessons, video clips, games, audio clips, etc.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, "We are zealous for the Hebrew
language and Israel's heritage. In the age of the Internet and global
multi-culturalism, this obligation of ours is more urgent than ever."

6. The Cabinet decided to adopt the recommendations of the committee
appointed by Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov on reducing the cost of
vacationing in Israel. Click here
