(Communicated by the Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Ministry
The Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Ministry has opened a Public
Diplomacy Department in Arabic that will be responsible for conducting
public diplomacy activities for the media and public opinion on a global
level in general and among Arab countries and the Middle East in general.
Hani Marzouk was chosen by public tender to head the new department. He
holds a Master's Degree in the History of Middle East and has experience
with Israel's minority communities and public diplomacy regarding the
Arab-Israeli conflict. He will be responsible – inter alia – for building
and developing tools and means to advance public diplomacy messages to
Arabic speakers in Israel and abroad and coordinating on the issue with
other relevant Government agencies.
Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Ministry Director-General Ronen Plot
said, "In the era of the Internet and the social networks, when the Internet
influences strategic changes in the character of the regimes around us, the
State of Israel's public diplomacy efforts in Arabic are of utmost
importance. In keeping with the policy outlined by Public Diplomacy and
Diaspora Affairs Minister Yuli Edelstein, the ministry is placing emphasis
on public diplomacy infrastructures in Arabic, both on the Internet and
social media and vis-à-vis the relevant elements in the media. I welcome
Marzouk's appointment and I am certain that our activity in the field will
have wide influence."
