CAIRO, December 30, 2012 (WAFA) – Arab League Secretary General Nabil
Elaraby Sunday said that the Palestinian Authority is suffering from severe
financial crisis.

Elaraby said during a press conference in Cairo that at the request of
President Mahmoud Abbas, he has renewed calls on capable Arab countries to
commit to financially supporting PA as agreed on in the recent Baghdad
summit.

“PA pays salaries of over 77,000 public employees in the Gaza Strip with
Israel withholding its tax revenues and the US congress expected punitive
measures,” he said.

Elaraby declared that the Arab countries are going to address the Security
council to discuss the Palestinian cause after the efforts of the
International Quartet regarding peace proved to be unproductive.

He affirmed that his visit to Ramallah along with the Egyptian Foreign
Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr has confirmed the poor economic conditions in the
West Bank.

He said that he and President Mahmoud Abbas have discussed the upcoming
visits of Arab ministers to Palestine.

Elaraby said that the regular Arab summit will be held in Doha on March 25
and 26 and the Economic summit will be held on January 21 and 22 in Riyadh,
the one which we are counting on a lot.
