Dr. Aaron Lerner Date: 6 January 2013
Contrary to what IMRA was advised at the end of October (see below), Ashley
Perry, Deputy Director of Communications for Yisrael Beiteinu, told IMRA
today that the agreement remains in effect for 30 days after the elections
at which time the two sides will consider what they will do.
It should be noted that according to the law, President Peres has to assign
an MK the task of forming a government within 7 days of the official
announcement of the Knesset election results.
That MK then has 28 days to forma government (the president can grant the MK
up to an additional 14 days.
In summary: The Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu Merger agreement is designed to
insure that Yisrael Beiteinu supports the assignment of the task of forming
the government to Binyamin Netanyahu but the agreement does not necessarily
force Yisrael Beiteinu to vote in support of the government in the vote of
confidence if this were to take place more than 30 days after the elections.

Dr. Aaron Lerner Date: 30 October 2012

MKs, the Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu merger for the elections approved by the
Likud Central Committee last night was just that: a merger only for the
Once the elections have been held and a new government is formed and passes
the Knesset vote of confidence the "Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu" Knesset faction
will split up into a Likud faction and a Yisrael Beiteinu faction.
