TEHRAN (FNA)- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps tested its modern weapons
and the latest achievements during tactical drills staged in the IRGC's
first naval zone to exercise modern warfare.

The IRGC's first naval zone is specifically tasked with maintaining security
in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The fifth tactical drills held in the IRGC first naval zone were aimed at
boosting preparedness and combat capabilities of the IRGC naval forces and
their knowledge of the IRGC's new achievements in modern warfare as well as
increasing the forces' speed of action with regard to natural and unnatural
incidents, IRGC navy officials said.

The exercises were carried out in the presence of Iranian experts and
specialists as well as the commander of the IRGC first naval zone Rear
Admiral Torabi.

Speaking on the sidelines of the drills, Torabi said his forces' capability
and preparedness to defend the region is growing given the arrival of new
units and equipments.

On November 4, the IRGC established a new Navy zone in a bid to boost
defensive measures in waters surrounding Iran's islands in the Persian Gulf.

The IRGC is in charge of safeguarding security in the Persian Gulf.

The IRGC's fifth naval zone, namely Imam Mohammad Baqer (PBUH), was
officially inaugurated in Iran's Southern port city of Bandar Lengeh in
Hormozgan province in a ceremony attended by IRGC Commander Major General
Mohammad Ali Jafari.

The fifth zone operations will cover an area from Qeshm island and Naze'aat
Islands region to the western waters of the Kish island.

Iranian military commanders have always reiterated Tehran's commitment to
the security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, and cautioned
that foreign military presence will only undermine the security of the
strategic waterway.

Iranian officials have repeatedly warned the trans-regional states,
specially the US, to pull their troops and warships out of the Persian Gulf.

Iranian officials have also frequently underlined the necessity for the
establishment of security in the Persian Gulf through extensive and all-out
cooperation among the regional states.
