40% Think U.S. Spends Too Much on National Security

With government spending cuts on the negotiating table, more voters than
ever believe the United States spends too much on defense.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 40% of Likely
U.S. Voters now think America spends too much on the military and national
security. Twenty-two percent (22%) disagree and feel the country does not
spend enough in this area. Thirty-two percent (32%) believe the amount spent
on defense is about right.

This national survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on January 13-14,
2013 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage
points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports
surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.
