Cabinet Agrees on Concluding Contracts for Protection of Oil Facilities

DAMASCUS, (SANA)- The cabinet on Saturday held a special session to discuss
the situation of oil and gas and the measures needed to be taken to protect
the oil facilities against the attacks of the armed terrorist groups.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Suleiman Abbas, presented a
review of the situation of oil and gas in the country and the sabotage acts
and transgressions committed by the terrorists against the infrastructure
and technical equipment of the oil facilities and pipelines and tankers of
oil derivatives.

He explained how these acts have caused reduction in productivity and
disruption of refineries' work, which made it difficult to meet the
development, industrial, service and social needs of gas and oil
derivatives.

He called for taking more effective measures for protecting oil facilities
as the current ones have not achieved the aspired-for goal.

In this context, the cabinet agreed that the Petroleum Ministry and its
institutions conclude contracts on the protection of oil facilities,
pipelines and tankers.

The cabinet also formed a committee to restudy the standing contract forms
in this regard, stressing on work to establish a general body for the
protection of oil facilities.
