Tel Aviv-Yafo White Night this Thursday Night!

Tel Aviv-Yafo's White Night
Thursday, June 27, 2013

Dear Journalists, White Night is taking place in Tel Aviv this Thursday for
the ninth time! You are all invited to experience the nonstop city at its
best.

Tel Aviv's "White City" – a historic and unique urban fabric – was declared
a World Heritage Site by UNESCO In July 2003. The city center has the
largest concentration in the world of buildings designed in the
International Style (better known as Bauhaus architecture), giving Tel
Aviv-Yafo its special standing in contemporary period architecture.

Since then, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality has marked UNESCO's declaration
every year through a series of White Night events that also highlight
another of its assets: namely, that Tel Aviv-Yafo is a "nonstop city."

Tel Aviv-Yafo serves as a warm home for many cultural institutions, artists
and creators, which are nurtured by the city and nourish its pulse. Tel
Aviv-Yafo is a muse and source of inspiration for widespread and diverse
cultural undertakings, and is open to any display of original thinking.

White Night is a celebration featuring dozens of events that take place at
the same time throughout the city – whether outdoors or at cultural
centers – starting in the early hours of the evening and ending in the wee
hours of the morning. All the events are open to the public, either free of
charge or for a nominal fee. The events include theater and dance
performances, public sing-alongs, selections from operas, classical music
recitals, jazz ensembles, rock and alternative music concerts, video
presentations, art sales, discussions about literature and philosophy,
nighttime sports and yoga lessons, folk dancing, ballroom dancing, dance
workshops, street parades, special nighttime menus at restaurants and cafes,
sunrise shows, parties at clubs, tours sponsored by the Global City and
Tourism Administration, and decorative illumination of Bauhaus buildings in
the White City district.

In the nine years of its existence, White Night has been a huge success
among all those who have taken part. This year as well, cultural and art
institutions located in the city have come on board in record numbers.
