This past Friday evening, a small group of students from Yeshivat Beit Orot
were attacked by an Arab mob on their way back to Beit Orot from evening
prayers nearby on the Mount of Olives Ridge. One was lightly injured and
another was moderately wounded; the latter remains in the hospital in stable
condition.
The Jewish residents of the eastern neighborhoods of Israel's capital have
been conducting their normative lives for decades. For over five months now
Jews have been targeted incessantly by repeated attacks on their homes,
schools, playgrounds and places of worship. The grave incident that occurred
on Friday night near Beit Orot could have been a genuine disaster. We are
confident that police officials on the ground did and will continue to do
their best to prevent friction and restore order as a definitive display of
Israel's sovereignty in its eternal capital.
Conditions in eastern Jerusalem remain tenuous and we are seeking to fortify
preventative security at Beit Orot, particularly around the newly completed
residential buildings in which Jewish families have just recently taken up
residence.
Thank you for your prayers and continued support of our struggle to live
freely as Jews in the heart of Israel's eternal capital - Jerusalem.
