JERUSALEM (Ma’an) – The director of Al-Quds University’s Institute of
Forensic Medicine on Sunday refused to go to Israel’s Russian Compound
interrogation center in Jerusalem for questioning.

Dr Sabir al-Aloul told Ma’an that the summons he received from Israeli
police “is illegal and unprofessional.” Pathologists can be summoned by a
court or by district attorney but not by police for interrogation.

He says he believes Israeli police summoned him for questioning related to
his participation in the autopsy of the Palestinian bus driver Yusuf
al-Ramouni who was found hanged to death in a bus in Jerusalem.

“After I participated in the autopsy of al-Ramouni, I wrote a report and
handed it to the Palestinian minister of health in accordance with legal
protocol an hour before the victim’s body was buried.”

The pathologist confirmed that he worded his report without being “under
pressure.”

Asked about Israeli claims that he signed a report by the Israeli Institute
of Forensic medicine in Abu Kabir which confirmed that al-Ramouni committed
suicide, the Palestinian pathologist said: “I haven’t signed any reports in
Israel.”

He added that “usually every pathologist who attends an autopsy writes a
separate report of his own.”
