Supreme Court Rules To Encourage Palestinians to Work Illegally in Israel

Supreme Court Rules To Encourage Palestinians to Work Illegally in Israel
Dr. Aaron Lerner - IMRA 14 December 2014
Haaretz reports today that the Supreme Court ruled to reduce the minimum
penalty for Palestinians who work illegally in Israel from 1 month actual
imprisonment plus an additional several months if they are caught again to
no actual time in prison. One of the three ruling judges stated that the
MAXIMUM penalty for a Palestinian working illegally in Israel should be 5
month jail (the 5 including both actual time in jail plus the time if
violate probation) and a find of a maximum of NIS 2,000.
From a purely economic standpoint the court ruling has reduced the penalty
to the level that under almost all circumstances it makes business sense for
a Palestinian to illegally cross into Israel to work.
