Government endorses electoral draft law

Amman, August 31 (Petra) -- Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour, on Monday, said
the cabinet approved the Lower House of Representatives' electoral draft law
for 2015 that eliminates "one-person, one-vote" electoral system and adopts
open-list proportional system, which was applied in 1989.

According to the new law, the voter is to cast his/her vote first for one
list and then vote for a number of candidates, the prime minister said in a
press conference held at the Royal Cultural Center.

According to the draft law, the number of members of the House of
Representatives has been reduced to 130 deputies instead of 150, Ensour
noted.
