Weekly Commentary: Continue exposing the recklessness of Iran deal
Dr. Aaron Lerner Date: 2 September 2015
This is not the time to change focus from exposing the recklessness of the
Iran deal to discussions of military packages and other arrangements
attempting to somehow offset this fiasco.
When the time comes for those discussions, the job done in the coming period
through the entire voting process could make a major contribution to the
discussions between Israel and the United States.
On the most basic level, the more grossly clear just how grave the situation
is going to be in the wake of the deal the more amenable the United States
will be for more “generous” arrangements.
To be clear: support for the Iran deal pretty much from day one reverted to
the “what’s the alternative” fallback argument. An excuse that implicitly
concedes that it is not, a priori, a good deal.
The battle today is hardly just to upgrade the “offsetting”.
This is an opportunity to ratchet up America’s position on various aspects
of Iranian activity – including measures against these activities.
And, of course, this is the time to set the stage so that it is possible to
maximize whatever can be derived from this terrible deal.
Finally, this is absolutely not the time for opponents of the Iran deal to
engage in open criticism of the performance of team members.
Not while the ball is, most certainly, still in play.
