Lieutenant Colonel Eli Dekel (ret) , who commanded the Field Intelligence
Branch of Military Intelligence during the First Lebanon War presented his
findings of a study of the Egyptian military deployment in Sinai at the
Alfredo Seminar on the Next War.

He found that the Egyptians made huge investments in military bridges for
spanning the Suez Canal.

Today there are 13 military bridges on full alert, to quickly facilitate
that movement of tanks, armored vehicles and military equipment of any
kind, to the east bank of the Suez Canal, and then on to the Sinai Peninsula
and the borders of Israel.

"There is no good explanation for why should the Egyptians need so many
modern military bridges at the Suez Canal, after 36 years of peace ",
wondered Dekel. "

Today they have twice as military bridges in the water as compared to the
Yom Kippur War."
