TEL AVIV [MENL] -- The Israel Air Force has completed a simulation of a
missile war.
The air force conducted a simulation in which Iran and its proxies fired
thousands of missiles toward Israel. The exercise included both actual air
operations as well as simulated battles with the Iranian-sponsored
Hizbullah.
"We set up missile batteries that shoot at us as well as enemy
aircraft," a senior officer said.
Officers said the exercise contained two stages. One stage focused on
simulations that took place at air force headquarters in Tel Aviv. The other
stage was the operation of active defense systems to stop Iranian-sponsored
missile strikes.
"We have set up an exercise that makes believe our enemy is in our
territory, and we practice fighting it," the officer said.
The simulation also included the Russian military presence in Syria.
Officers said the exercise envisioned coordination with the Russian Air
Force, which operates a hotline to the Israeli military.
The Israeli exercise also included operations by F-16 multi-role
fighters and CH-53 helicopters. During the simulation, Israeli warplanes
intercepted enemy aircraft from Lebanon and Syria.
"You have to remember that in the Syrian chaos there is movement of a
variety of aircraft, manned and unmanned, even some made in Iran," the
officer said.
