Ex-brass launch campaign with embarrassingly stupid assertion

Ex-brass launch campaign with embarrassingly stupid assertion
Dr. Aaron Lerner - 30 May 2016

Here's the embarrassingly stupid assertion:

"The Israeli security forces have the power to secure the final border as
shall be agreed upon by the Government of Israel and endorsed by the Israeli
people. Claims that an agreement will undermine security are unfounded. The
opposite is true: as political agreement enhances security. The IDF can
provide an effective response to any security challenge, and its strength
provides the Government of Israel with the negotiating space required to
achieve peace arrangements."

This is from the "vision" of the high profile campaign just launched by
"Commanders for Israel’s Security (CIS)".

The group describes itself as "a non-partisan movement of former senior
security officials (IDF, Mossad, Shin Bet and Police) dedicated to the
promotion of a regional security-political initiative to resolve the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict and normalize relations with moderate Arab
states"

Why is it an embarrassingly stupid assertion?

Because it is circular logic to argue that a border is defensible simply
because it was agreed upon and apparently Israel wouldn’t agree to a border
if it couldn't be defended.

Because, by definition, not all borders can be effectively secured. And
certainly, in and of itself, the fact that a particular Government of Israel
agrees on a particular border does not mean that that particular border can
be secured by the Israel security forces.

If anything, by engaging in this circular logic, the "Commanders for Israel’s
Security (CIS)" have sent a clear warning to the Israeli public that they
aren't serious about security.
