Defense Ministry - Work along the Israel-Jordan Border Continues at a steady pace

Work along the Israel-Jordan Border Continues at a Steady Pace
(Communicated by the Ministry of Defense)

The Engineering and Construction Department at the Ministry of Defense
continue to work at a steady, efficient pace in order to develop the eastern
fence along the Israel-Jordan border. The project is spearheaded by Brig.
Gen. Eran Ofir, who also managed the development of security fences along
the borders with Egypt and the Golan Heights.

In accordance with the government's decision, the length currently under
construction is approximately 30 kilometers, from Eilat to the Sands of
Samar (north of Timna). So far, twenty-four kilometers have been completed
and the Ministry of Defense team is preparing to complete the deployment of
the fence in the coming weeks. The project includes developing road systems,
observation towers, operations centers and additional advanced measures.
Construction of the fence is expected to be completed by the end of the year
and will cost roughly 300 million NIS, which includes the construction of
the Ilan Ramon airport, currently under construction near Timna.

The project was planned in coordination with environmental protection
officials in order to minimize damage to the surrounding environment. Among
other things, hydrological solutions have been developed to enable the
establishment of the Nahal Ha'Arvah route, resilient waterway barriers,
ecological passages for animals, as well as corrosion prevention solutions.
