250 Gazans travel to Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem to perform Friday prayers

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- More than 200 Palestinian Gazans headed to pray at the
Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem on Friday via the Erez crossing in
the northern Gaza Strip.

Sources at the Palestinian liaison told Ma’an that 250 Gazan worshipers
above the age of 50 crossed early Friday heading to Jerusalem for prayers.

Worshipers would be returning to the Gaza Strip on the same day.

While Israeli authorities have typically permitted 300 elderly Palestinians
from the small Palestinian territory to travel to Al-Aqsa every Friday, the
number was reduced after Israeli authorities accused Hamas and other groups
with misusing the crossing permits.

A spokesperson for the Coordination of Government Activities in the
Territories (COGAT), the Israeli agency responsible for implementing Israeli
policies in the occupied Palestinian territory, told Ma'an at the time that
the decision would continue to be reviewed "in accordance with the conduct
of the Palestinians and their choice to respect the agreements with Israel."
