Today, February 19, 2018 at 02:30, the Israel Missile Defense Organization
(IMDO) of the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) at
Israel’s Ministry of Defense, together with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency
(MDA) successfully completed a flight test of the Arrow-3 Weapons System
that is designed to defend against ballistic missile threats outside the
atmosphere. The test was conducted at a test site in central Israel and was
led by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in collaboration with the Israeli
Air Force.
The Arrow-3 Interceptor was launched and completed its mission.
The MDA, as system co-developers, supported the test. The primary contractor
for the integration and development of the Arrow Weapon System is MLM of
IAI. Elta, an IAI subsidiary, is responsible for the development of the
radar detection system. Elisra, a subsidiary of Elbit systems, developed the
Battle Management Control (BMC). IMI, IAI/TAMAM and Rafael are major
subcontractors for Interceptor development. America’s Boeing partnered with
MLM to develop ad produce the Arrow-3 interceptor.
The Arrow Weapon System is a major part of Israel’s multi-layered defense
array. This array is based on four layers: Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and the
Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 systems.
The success of this test is a major milestone in the operational
capabilities of the State of Israel and its ability to defense itself
against current and future threats in the region.
Arrow-3 interceptors were delivered to the Israeli Air Force in January 2017
for operational use.
