PM Sharon opts to launch campaign with lie?

While many of the people joining with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as well as
his own team and many of the journalists who have become his "house
journalists" explain that the reason that Sharon has opted to leave the
Likud is so that he can carry out an additional retreat in the West Bank,
Prime Minister Sharon, in his first press conference after leaving the Likud
today replied to a direct question from a reporter that:
"I do not plan to carry out any other plan. There is no plan of an

platform that coincides with what he plans to do.
One possible explanation is that polls indicate that while many in the
public may vote for a Sharon party that there is broad opposition to

to feel comfortable voting for his party while he can still enjoy the
support of the media and intelligentsia (and perhaps most important what
appears to be immunity from indictment as long as future retreats are in the
offing) that knows he actually plans to retreat.
It remains to be seen if such an approach boomerangs as the public resents
the insult to their intelligence.
