Weekly Commentary: Does President Herzog Condone Firing And/Or Not Hiring
Judicial Reform Supporters?
Dr. Aaron Lerner 5 August 2023
Dear Jason Pearlman, Foreign Media Advisor to President Herzog,
Hilo Glazer wrote in the Haaretz Supplement of 4 August 2023 in an article
titled "The Revolution Is Yet To Turn On Us" (my translation- I have attached
photos of the original Hebrew):
"It has come to the attention of the Haaretz Supplement of an additional
channel in which the concern (AL of blowback for supporting judicial reform)
was discussed - conversations that President Yitzhak Herzog held with Haredi
MKs including the leaders of Yahadut Hatorah. The president initiated the
talks. Among other things is a scenario in which large companies in the
economy refuse to employ Haredi workers and the possibility was also raised
that business elements will decline to engage with Haredi businessmen. It
appears the warnings were paid attention to."
Question #1: Does President Herzog believe that it is appropriate for
private companies to fire and/or refuse to hire supporters of judicial
reform or to engage in business with them?
Question #2: Does President Herzog believe that it is appropriate for
publicly traded companies to fire and/or refuse to hire supporters of
judicial reform or to engage in business with them?
Question #3: If President Herzog does not believe that it is appropriate in
either Question #1 or Question #2 when will he share his view in the matter
with the public and/or leaders of the business community.
I will publish your reply unedited.
