Observation: Israel Can Only Help The PA Against Hamas Threat By Fighting Hamas

Observation: Israel Can Only Help The PA Against Hamas Threat By Fighting
Hamas
Dr. Aaron Lerner 5 September 2022

The best way to undermine the standing of the Palestinian Authority on the
Palestinian street is to openly attempt to bolster their position.

The best way Israel can help to protect the Palestinian Authority from Hamas
and Islamic Jihad is by Israel continuing - if not expanding - its
operations against Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Judea and Samaria.

Today we face the phenomenon that some armed members of the various
Palestinian Authority security forces are engaging in attacks against
Israelis.

The best way Israel can help the Palestinian Authority keep its "legal"
gunmen in check, without undermining the standing of the Palestinian
Authority, is by Israel acting by itself against Palestinian Authority
security forces who engage in attacks against Israelis.

The talking heads who are now pushing for Israel to support the Palestinian
Authority by diplomatic and other concessions are ignoring the years of
experience which shows us that Israeli concession tend to heat up rather
than cool down the area.

Let's not kid ourselves about the nature of the Palestinian Authority.

They continue to poison the minds of generations of school children,
teaching them not only that the Jews have no right to even share this piece
of real estate but that it is a glorious thing to murder Israelis.

Today, as we mark the anniversary of the Munich Massacre in ceremonies in
Germany, there are no doubt teachers in Palestinian classrooms praising the
terrorists who carried out the attack and encouraging the children to follow
the example.

Yes, the Palestinian Authority is the enemy of our enemy.

But we must not fall into the trap of ignoring the reality on the ground.

Certainly there are things we are doing and can expand upon to improve the
lot of the Palestinian street, such as more work permits and the new program
which opened Ramon Airport for Palestinians to use - a move saving on fees
and also saving considerable time as compared to flying from to Amman.

But Israeli action for the direct benefit of the Palestinian Authority
would be counter productive.

We simply cannot afford policies which ignore the lessons of decades of
experience.
