Observation: Pres. Biden To Decide If Houthi Challenge is Geopolitical
Inflection Point or Destined to be a Trivia Question
Dr. Aaron Lerner 24 December 2023
How President Biden ultimately addresses the Houthi blockade of the Red Sea
will determine if this episode become the most important geopolitical
inflection point of the 21st century or ultimately just another trivia
question.
It is reasonable to say that there aren't any players who actually think
that the major ocean freight companies will be willing to risk their 200
million dollars vessels in a form of "Doctor Dodgeball".
So if Mr. Biden's plan is to play out the clock by engaging in organizing an
irrelevant international escort service, this could very well mark the
beginning of the end for the West's control of its destiny.
Ask a Taiwanese.
Alternatives?
Already back on November 7th, Edward Luttwak said on the "School of War"
podcast that if the United States positioned boats to wait outside the
Straits of Hormuz and blocked every tanker carrying Iranian oil that this
would suffice to bring this episode to an end.
Alternatively, retired Army Gen. Joseph L. Votel, who commanded CENTCOM from
2016-2019, told Air & Space Forces Magazine on December 12th, "You could
take action against coastal radars, coastal gun systems, missile systems,
those kinds of sites. There are very clear military targets."
The clock is ticking.
