Eisenkot calls on the IDF and the security echelon to filter orders
according to his own criterion - a dangerous call that must be retracted

Gadi Eisenkot, 31.10.2026:
"Until the government is formed, I will give backing to military moves only
if there are direct and immediate threats against Israel that cannot wait
until the swearing-in of the government."

Even if we assume for a moment - an assumption I do not accept - that there
is any legitimacy to such a statement at all, it is still an announcement
that those on the receiving end of it (a soldier, an officer, a member of
the Shin Bet or Mossad) simply do not have the information required to
determine whether a given order meets this condition or not.
This problem does not stop at the lower ranks. It extends all the way up the
security echelon, because even senior members of the security echelon do not
possess the full picture available to the political echelon - regarding
diplomatic considerations, broad intelligence assessments, and long-term
strategic considerations.
This is a profoundly shocking and disappointing statement, especially coming
from someone who, from his personal experience, knows intimately how
complicated, multi-faceted, and impossible it is to simplify the political
echelon's decision-making process into a single clear criterion that the
security echelon can apply on its own.
I sincerely hope that his coalition partners will persuade him to publicly
retract this dangerous call
