Poll of Palestinians March 27 - 30, 2002 81.1% Support Arafat, 60.8% Support
Saudi initiative 76.8% don't trust Zinni [IMRA clarification]

In a most recent poll conducted by the PCPO and prepared by Dr. Nabil
Kukali.

(81.1%) support Yasser Arafat.
(60.8%) support the initiative of the Saudi Crown Prince .
(76.8%) do not trust General Anthony Zinni.
(47.6%) support the right of both Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace
and security.

The poll that was conducted by the PCPO, prepared by Dr. Nabil Kukali, and
included a random sample of (720) Palestinian adults, 18 years and older
from Gaza Strip and the West Bank including East Jerusalem, reveals that
(81.1%) of the Palestinians support President Yasser Arafat, while (17.2%)
oppose, and (1.7%) express no opinion.

President of the PCPO Dr. Nabil Kukali, stated that the poll was carried
out on March 27 - 30, 2002. He added that the average age of respondents,
and the margin of error were 30.5 years and (+/-3.65) percent points
respectively.

Dr. Kukali mentioned that the poll was conducted before and during the
Israeli invasion to Ramallah. He also mentioned that the percentage of male
respondents was (51.5%), and that of female ones was (48.5%).

Dr. Kukali pointed out to the fact that a major proportion of the data was
processed manually due the current siege and security belt imposed on the
Palestinian territories that impeded their arrival to the center in Beit
Sahour.

Dr. Kukali said that the results of the poll were as follows:

2. Somewhat support 39.6%
3. Somewhat oppose 8.8%
4. Strongly oppose 8.4%
5. No opinion 1.7%

2. Are you in favor or against the initiative of the Saudi Crown Prince
Abdallah? The initiative suggests full diplomatic ties with Israel in return
of Israeli's withdrawal from all Arab territories occupied in 1967.
1. In favor 60.8%
2. Against 22.3%
3. No opinion 16.9%
[Dr. Nabil Kukali told IMRA this afternoon that while the text of the
question is as it appears above, the Palestinian public is well aware that
the Saudi initiative includes the right of return of the Palestinian
refugees per UN Resolution 194 to inside Israel as this is something that
has received considerable coverable in the Palestinian media.]

3. Do you believe or not that it is the right of both Israelis and
Palestinians to live in peace and security?
1. Yes 47.6%
2. No 33.8%
3. Do not know 18.6%

4. Some people believe that President George Bush's envoy to the Middle East
General Anthony Zinni serves the Israeli interests only, while others
believe that he serves both the Israeli and Palestinian interests. Which
