PEACE PROJECT JULY 2002 SURVEY

The Peace Index Project is conducted by the Tami Steinmetz Center for Peace
Research at Tel Aviv University, headed by Prof. Ephraim Yaar and Dr. Tamar
Hermann and executed by the Tel Aviv University's B. I. Cohen Institute.
Results are shown for 29-31 July 2002.

[IMRA: The survey details below covers the representative sub-sample of
adult Jewish Israelis for the core questions as well as some additional
questions. This month's survey also asked some theoretical questions about
the willingness of Israelis to accept various withdrawal schemes if the
Palestinians dropped their demand for the right of return. These theoretical
questions (that did not mention the strategic Jordan Valley and leave the
description of borders vague) will be translated later as time permits]

1. Do you believe or not believe that in the coming years there will be
peace between Israel and the Arabs?

2. In general, do you consider yourself a supporter or opponent of the peace

In light of the liquidation of Salah Shehada in Gaza, during which the bomb
used also caused the death of 14 Palestinian civilians, among them children
and babies, should Israel not carry out such liquidations if there is a
reasonable chance that the civilian population will be hurt?

risk of terror attacks to some extent]

against Jews in a community in the Katif Bloc in the Gaza Strip or in Judea
