Poll Results 23 August 2002 67% Oslo hurt the nation

The following are the results of a Dahaf Poll of a representative sample of
500 adult Israelis (including Israeli Arabs) carried out the week 23 August
2002.Statistical error +/- 4.5 percentage points.

In the final analysis, did signing Oslo hurt or help Israel?
Hurt 67% Helped 21% No reply 12%

Are you ready to make more or fewer concessions today than you were before
the Intifada?
More 22% Fewer 54% No change 21% No reply 3%

Do you support the "Gaza-Bethlehem First" agreement that was activated this
week with the Palestinians
For 67% Against 31% No reply 2%

[IMRA: And now a classic example of a newspaper trying to launch an
initiative. Sometimes a newspaper tries to push a candidate by running them
in a poll. Other times they float a pet proposal in the hopes that the
politicians will take note of the results. The paper could have asked if
Israel should evacuate any settlements before the Palestinians disarm the
illegal militias and the results would be considerably different. But that
is not apparently their agenda. As the cynics put it, it pays to own a
newspaper...]

At the end of a period without attacks, should Israel evacuate 2 to 3
settlements as a gesture to the Palestinians?
Yes 52% No 48%

At the end of a period without attacks, should Israel increase the number of
work permits to the Palestinians?
Yes 36% No 61% No reply 3%

Who would you like to head the Likud?
Sharon 51% Netanyahu 34%
[Dahaf claims that this is a survey of Likud supporters - a very odd result
considering that just last week Market Watch found that of the TOTAL
population the results were Sharon 31% Netanyahu 33% and among those who
vote right Sharon 36% Netanyahu 45%]

Who would you like to head Labor?
Ben Eliezer 32% Mitzna 62%
[Dahaf claims that this is a survey of Labor Party supporters -just last
week Market Watch found that of those who vote Labor: Ben Eliezer 13% Mitzna
73%]

Who do you think is more appropriate for the job of prime minister:
Sharon 58% Ben Eliezer 15%
Sharon 50% Mitzna 30%
Netanyahu 51% Ben Eliezer 26%
Netanyahu 46% Mitzna 35%

Who would handle economic matters better, Sharon or Mitzna?
Sharon 28% Mitzna 36%
