Yuli Tamir: Seeking foreign intervention part of the new "global democracy"

Aaron Lerner Date: 12 September 2002

Former Immigrant Absorption Minister Yuli Tamir was interviewed this morning
on Israel Radio's "It's All Talk" program about the letter she and former FM
Shlomo Ben Ami wrote to President Bush asking that he actively intervene in
Palestinian-Israeli relations. Tamir was asked how asking a foreign country
to intervene jibes with the democratic process.

Tamir replied that this is a "new age" with a "different democracy" - a
"global democracy" and thus it was only proper for her to seek foreign
intervention to promote her program.

With regards to the "local democracy" that still requires winning the
majority vote in local elections, earlier today Tamir said in an interview
that she has not yet decided if she will endorse Mitzna in the Labor Party
primaries.
