Indictments issued against two IDF soldiers involved in the killing of
Palestinian civilians

The IDF Judge Advocate General issued two indictments this week against an
officer and a soldier involved in separate incidents in which Palestinian
civilians were killed.

The first indictment regards an incident on December 3, 2002, in which shots
were fired at a suspect taxi near Surda, north of Ramallah. In the incident
an elderly woman passenger in the taxi, Fatma Obeidi, was killed and another
woman wounded. The soldier is charged with causing death through negligence
and with the unlawful use of a weapon.

The second indictment regards an incident on October 4, 2002, in the village
of Nazalat Zid, east of Jenin, in which shots were fired during a violent
disturbance, killing a Palestinian youth, Mohammed Ali Zid. The officer is
charged with causing death through negligence.
