Fatah holds the Israeli Government responsible for sabotaging the option of
peace by continuing its aggression and assassinations and has affirmed its
adherence to the option of resistance and self-determination. In a statement
it distributed last night to journalists, Fatah warned the Sharon
government, saying that it is warning the world and the members of the
Quartet regarding the dire consequences of the unjustified Israeli military
escalation in the wake of the Al-Aqabah summit aimed at torpedoing the
political attempts and moves to extricate the region from the current crisis
and end the Arab-Israeli conflict. It added that the Israeli escalation will
only lead the region and its people to a new, unprecedented stage of
violence and counterviolence.

Fatah stressed that the Israeli military campaign and threats to continue
the policy of assassinations constitute a declaration of an all-out war
against the Palestinian people, but it is the Israelis themselves who mostly
be burned by this fire.

Fatah further stated that the Israeli escalation against the Palestinian
people will only increase their desire to strengthen their unity and
national cohesion as well as their adherence to the option of resistance and
self-determination. It called on the international community and the Quartet
to urgently intervene; adopt a decisive position; send an international
force that will stop the Israeli escalation and protect the Palestinians;
put an end to the Israeli policy; and help the Palestinians realize their
right to live in freedom and establish a state.
