FBIS (US government service) Report - Friday sermons broadcast by the Saudi
Government media on 27 June 2003:
[With thanks to www.mideastweb.org/mewnews1.htm ]

Riyadh Kingdom of Saudi Arabia TV1 in Arabic, official television station of
the Saudi Government, at 0933 GMT carries a 23-minute live sermon from the
Holy Mosque in Mecca.

Shaykh Salih Bin-Abdallah Bin-Humayd delivers the sermon. He praises God,
the messenger, and his companions, and calls on Muslims to obey God.
Stressing the importance of security for every country and nation, the imam
says "each act of sabotage is forbidden under Islam as an act of crime,"
citing relevant Koranic verses to the effect that he who kills a believer
will go to Hell. He also criticizes those, "who have put explosives inside
the Koran," warning that such "evil actions will delay the march of reform"
in the country and even pave the way for "foreign interference." Such
actions, he says, "should be condemned, rejected, and prohibited," assailing
"extremists" for harming Islam and Muslims. Calling for dialogue to solve
problems, the imam praises the recent "dialogue held by various groups in
this blessed country" as constructive and calls on media organs and
preachers to guide people to the right path.

The imam then urges Muslims to reject "such actions" and to expose their
consequences and warns Muslims against giving any justification for some
people's "ignorance and crimes," adding "that harming believers and
violating the sanctities have nothing to do with sacrifice or jihad."

Concluding, the imam prays to God: "O God, strengthen Islam and Muslims,
humiliate infidelity and infidels, protect Islam, and disappoint tyrants,
unbelievers, and Islam's enemies." He goes on: "O God, support the
mujahidin, who fight for your sake and in defense of your religion. O God,
support them in Palestine and elsewhere. O God, destroy the Zionist Jewish
occupiers, for they are destroying property and killing and displacing
people."

Riyadh Kingdom of Saudi Arabic TV2 in Arabic, official television station of
the Saudi Government, at 0940 GMT carries a 24-minute live sermon from the
Holy Mosque in Medina.

Shaykh Husayn Al al-Shaykh delivers the sermon. He praises God, the
messenger, and his companions and urges Muslims to obey God. Describing the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as the cradle of Islam, the imam says that "Saudi
Arabia is the last front for defending Islam." Condemning the bombing
operations in Riyadh and "Holy Mecca" as "acts of terrorism," the imam says
that all this has taken place in a peaceful, organized country. He also says
that people all over the world have condemned these incidents, "which
conflict with reason and logic." The imam urges Muslims to stick to the true
Islamic faith in order to enjoy security and stability. He then calls on
Muslims to obey their imams and ulema and to close their ranks in the face
of intruders. He also praises the national dialogue, which has recently been
held in the kingdom "to reinforce the unity of the sons of this country
under Islam."

Concluding, the imam prays to God: "O God, strengthen Islam and Muslims. O
God, improve the conditions of Muslims everywhere. O God, protect the
Islamic countries. O God, protect the country of the two holy mosques from
evil."
