Yoav Yitzchak: Sharon To Resign By First Half 2004

Yoav Yitzchak: Sharon To Resign By First Half 2004

Aaron Lerner Date: 1 August 2003

Investigative reporter Yoav Yitzchak wrote today in Ma'ariv that Prime
Minister Ariel Sharon can be expected to be forced to resign in the first
half of 2004 due to the investigations of various scandals associated with
illegal campaign funds.

Yizchak writes that the investigators already have enough evidence to indict
and convict the prime minister and his sons. Attorney General Rubenstein
would have normally followed the practice he did with Ehud Barak, pushing
off the legal process in order not to interfere with the "diplomatic
process", but this time Rubenstein has other interests: his own supreme
court appointment. Rubenstein already announced he is leaving his post on 15
January and must clear his desk - including the Sharon cases. Not finishing
the cases would be expected to block his possible appointment to the Supreme
Court.
