STATEMENT FROM PM SHARON'S BUREAU ON RELEASE OF PALESTINIAN PRISONERS

[IMRA: It is noteworthy that there is no mention of the consequences of
violating the declaration. Previously there were reports that Israel would
require that any released prisoner who is convicted of engaging in activity
against Israel after their release will serve the remainder of their
sentence in addition to the the sentence for the crime they committed after
their release.]

The Ministerial Committee on Palestinian Prisoner Affairs last night
(Sunday), 3.8.2003, and decided to release Palestinian prisoners that meet
the relevant criteria determined by the government.

The Palestinian prisoners will be asked to sign a commitment that they will
refrain from all terrorist activity and/or violence in the future.

The Palestinian prisoners' release will be carried out on Wednesday,
6.8.2003, beginning in the afternoon.

In accordance with the guidelines of Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein,
the list of Palestinian prisoners to be released will be published this
morning at http://www.ips.gov.il/.
