IMRA'S COMMENTARY: Sharon's Road Map To Reward Palestinian Terror

"In the past three years, the Palestinian terrorist organizations have put
us to a difficult test. Their plan to break the spirit of Israeli society
has not succeeded." So proclaimed Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as he
announced at the Herzliya Conference that Israel would respond to
Palestinian terror by uprooting settlements and withdrawing the IDF from
areas of "friction".

That's right.

Here is Mr. Sharon's road map to reward Palestinian terror:

If the Palestinians don't cooperate with Israel in the coming months Israel
with unilaterally uproot Jewish communities and retreat.

While Sharon won't say now what areas he will evacuate as a result of
Palestinian terror, he will say that Israel will retreat from areas of
"friction" "located in the heart of the Palestinian population".

What can be defined as being "located in the heart of the Palestinian
population"? A few kilometers distance from a large Palestinian city? How
about from a group of small Palestinian village that have active terror
cells?

Pull out a map and you will find that if the Palestinians engage in enough
terror that pretty much any Jewish community located anywhere near the
Palestinians can be defined as being in an area of "friction" "in the heart
of the Palestinian population" that Israel may be induced to retreat from.

And as an added reward for terror-driven Israeli retreats, Prime Minister
Sharon declares that Israel forfeits, a priori, any Israeli claim to any
area that it retreats from in future negotiations.

"I would like to emphasize," Sharon said, the "Disengagement Plan" is a
security measure and not a political one. The steps which will be taken
will not change the political reality between Israel and the Palestinians."

"Not change the political reality"?

Doesn't it change the political reality if Israel permanently retreats from
areas that the Palestinians choose to terrorize?

I shudder to think how many Israelis may die as a result of the special
bonus Jew hunting season Mr. Sharon essentially announced for the
Palestinians tonight.
