IDF Announces Targeting of Makled Hamid & Background From "Security Sources"

An Israeli Air force targeted a senior Islamic Jihad terrorist in Gaza.

In an operation of Israeli security forces this evening in Gaza, the IAF
targeted a car in which a senior terrorist of the Islamic Jihad was riding.
The terrorist was responsible for the killing of Israeli civilians and
soldiers, and was in the midst planning a terror attack which was to claim
many Israeli casualties.

#2 Information attributed to security sources

Security forces target head of the Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip Makled
Hamid, was classified as a "ticking bomb," preparing a major terror attack
inside Israel. Palestinian security sources received Hamid's name a number
of times, but did not take any action against him.

In an operation of Israeli security forces today in the Gaza Strip, Makled
Hamid, the head of the Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip, was killed. Hamid, a
resident of Jabalia refugee camp, was responsible for dozens of terror
attacks and attempted terror attacks against Israeli communities in the Gaza
Strip, attacks against IDF forces, and attempted infiltrations into Israel.

Hamid was currently involved in the final planning stages of a major terror
attack inside Israel, and as such was considered a "ticking bomb".

The last terror attack in which Makled Hamid took part was the dispatching
of a terrorist into an IDF base at Netzarim on Oct. 24th, 2003, in which 3
IDF soldiers, 2 of them women, were murdered.

Under the directive of Hamid, terrorists in cells under his command fired
Kassam rockets into Israel, carried out numerous shooting attacks against
IDF and civilian targets, fired anti-tank missiles and mortar shells,
dispatched suicide terrorists, and detonated dozens of explosive charges at
IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians within the Gaza Strip.

In the recent past there has been a significant rise in the number of terror
attacks which include the infiltration of terrorists into Israeli
communities and IDF posts in the Gaza strip, and attempted terror attacks by
the Islamic Jihad, led by Hamid.

Hamid was currently intensively involved in carrying out a major terror
attack inside Israel.

Hamid was also in direct contact with Islamic Jihad cells in the West Bank,
and instructed them to carry out terror attacks, through the transfer of
military knowledge, funds for terror activities, and coordination of the
different attacks.

Palestinian security sources received Maklid Hamid's name a number of times,
but did not take any action against him.

Makled Hamid was involved in attacks which claimed the lives of 6 civilians
and soldiers were killed, and 15 more injured.

The following is a list of terror attacks, or attempted terror attacks, in
which Makled Hamid took part:

- May 16th, 2003- The detonation of an explosive charge at an IDF tank near
Bait Hanun, as a result of which an IDF soldier was severely wounded.
- March 30th, 2003- The infiltration of two terrorists into Kibbutz Erez,
while opening fire and throwing hand grenades at an IDF force. The
terrorists were shot and killed by the IDF force.
- February 4th, 2003- The infiltration of a terrorist into the Erez
industrial zone, while throwing 2 hand grenades at an IDF force. The
terrorist was shot and killed by the IDF force.
- December 2nd, 2002- An attempted terror attack of a terrorist near the IDF
post in Netzarim. The terrorist was shot and killed by the IDF force, and an
IDF soldier was wounded.
- November 11th, 2002- A terrorist with an explosive belt, on route to carry
out a terror attack in the Erez crossing accidentally exploded while on his
way.
- November 9th, 2002- The detonation of an explosive device near Netzarim,
killing and IDF tracker.
- September 20th, 2002- The detonation of two anti tank explosive devices,
(while another was uncovered) at an IDF force that was operating near
"Termit" post , as a result of which two IDF soldiers were injured.
- August 23, 2002- The shooting and grenade throwing at an IDF post in Kfar
Darum, as a result of which an IDF soldier was injured. IDF forces returned
fire, shot and killed the two terrorists.
- July 22nd, 2002- The attempted infiltration of two terrorists into "Alon"
post in the north of Gosh Katif, as a result of which three IDF soldier were
injured, and one of the terrorist was killed.
- June 25th, 2002- The shooting and grenade throwing at the IDF "Karni"
post. The force shot and killed the terrorist.
- June 7th, 2002- Attempted infiltration of two terrorists into Israel by
sea, caught by the IDF.
- April 19th, 2002- Attempted infiltration of two armed terrorists into the
community of Netzarim. The terrorists were shot and killed by the IDF
forces.
- March 29th, 2002- The murder of two Israeli civilians by stabbing in the
community of Netzarim.
- August 13th , 2001- The planting of two explosive devices, weighing 30 kg
each, near the system fence near "Ma'azi", in which two terrorists were
arrested.
- February 24-25, 2001- Laying a bobby-trapped dummy, adjacent to an
explosive device, near the system fence near Jabalia.
- November 22nd , 2000- The detonation of a booby-trapped fishing boat near
an IDF "Dabor" boat, as a result of which 4 of the vessels soldiers were
injured.
- October 26th, 2000- An attempted terror attack by a suicide bomber riding
a bicycle near Gush Katif junction.

In addition, Hamid is very actively involved in weapons smuggling into the
Gaza strip, and in manufacturing Kassam rockets and explosive devises.
