A Haaretz poll released Thursday showed that 43 percent of registered Likud
members intend to vote against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's disengagement
plan in Sunday's referendum, while just 36 percent will support it.

Of those who are "certain to vote" or "inclined to vote," 46 percent oppose
the plan, while 36 percent are in favor.

Even so, 14 percent of those who will vote are still undecided and 7 percent
declined to say which way they will cast their ballot.

The poll, conducted Wednesday, also revealed that Sharon's intention to turn
the referendum into a personal vote of confidence in him would not
significantly influence the voters' intentions.

Only 8 percent of respondents said that they would change their vote if
Sharon presented the referendum as a vote of confidence in his leadership.

If the prime minister declares that the referendum is a vote of confidence,
42 percent said that they would vote against disengagement and 36 percent
said they would vote for it. (It must be noted that this question was asked
before Sharon decided Thursday to make the referendum a vote of confidence
in his leadership.)

Since the Haaretz poll published on April 22, the level of support for the
disengagement plan has fallen by 8 percent while the level of opposition to
the plan has increased by 3 percent.

The poll was based on a sample of Likud members. It was conducted for
Haaretz by Dialog and supervised by Professor Camil Fuchs of Tel Aviv
University's statistics faculty and managed by Arnona Arieli. It was
conducted on April 28 and surveyed a pool of 504 respondents representing
the Likud membership.

The full results of the survey will appear in Haaretz on Friday.
