JORDAN BECOMES REGIONAL TRAINING CENTER

JORDAN BECOMES REGIONAL TRAINING CENTER

AMMAN [MENL] -- Jordan has become a regional military training center.

Officials said Jordan's military has been training forces from both Arab and
Western countries. They said training ranges from counter-insurgency
techniques to Arabic language and cultural skills.

Jordan's command and staff college has overseen the training of thousands of
Iraqi military and security force cadets. The kingdom's police academy has
also been responsible for the training of Iraqi police.

But Jordan's military has also been training U.S. and NATO forces in Arabic
language and cultural skills. Officials said the courses have been meant to
provide Western forces with skills to operate in the Middle East,
particularly Iraq.
