in Jerusalem
480 squared meters, 4 kilometers of electrical wiring, 144,000 mini light
bulbs
A joint project of The Jerusalem Municipality and Israel Electric Company
The sukkah will occupy Safra Square and be the center of Sukkot events
A million visitors are expected to visit Jerusalem over the holiday

The Jerusalem Minicipality, together with the Israel Electric Company, have
initiated the construction of "Sukkah of Light", the biggest and most lit
sukkah in the world, made of 144,000 miniature light bulbs. The "Sukkah of
Light" will occupy Jerusalem Safra Square. The main holiday events will take
place at the sukkah, and during the holiday visitors, from Israel and
abroad, will be able to visit it. A million people are expected to visit
Jerusalem during the Sukkot holiday.

The Israel Electric Company workers will build the largest sukkah in the
world. It will be 30 meters long, 16 meters wide and 6 meters high, a total
of 480 squared meters, made of aluminum profiles that will support the
walls, that will be 4 kilometers of light wiring - rubber tubes with 144,000
mini light bulbs in them. The sukkah light wires, which will create the flag
of Israel on one of the four walls, are same ones that were used last
Independence Day in "Rabin Light" power station in Chadera.

Scenery inspired by the old city walls, 6 meters high, will be placed in the
entrance to the sukkah. The wall will be broken at one point, commemorating
the fall of the temple. Thousands of paper chains, prepared by soldiers from
the central command, will decorate the sukkah.

The "Sukkah of Light" will be lit on Tuesday, September 28th, one night
before Sukkot, at 19:00. The mayor of Jerusalem, Uri Lupolianski, and
General Manager of Israel Electric Company, Mr. Jacob Razon, will attend the
launching event.

All the major holiday events in Jerusalem will be integrated with the
"Sukkah of Light", including the mayor's receptions for Diplomats and
foreign delegates, for the people of Jerusalem and visitors, the closing
event of the Jerusalem Parade, Simchat Torah celebrations and more.

During the holiday days, visitors will be able to tour the sukkah, enjoy
refreshments and view the "Electricity through the Lens" exhibition - an
exhibition of artistic photographs by three photographers who accompanied
the work and operations of the Israel Electric Company.

The "Sukkah of Light" is produced by the municipal company "Ariel" and
"Omanut La'am".
