MOST PALESTINIANS OPPOSE CHANGING CHARTER

The following are the results of a survey of a representative
sample of 370 adult Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem on
October 24-26, carried out by the Palestinian Center for Public
Opinion (PCPO) at Beit Sahour under the supervision of Dr.MOST PALESTINIANS OPPOSE CHANGING CHARTER

The following are the results of a survey of a representative
sample of 370 adult Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem on
October 24-26, carried out by the Palestinian Center for Public
Opinion (PCPO) at Beit Sahour under the supervision of Dr. Nabil
Kukali. The sampling error is +/- 3 percentage pints:


1. What is your position on the agreement signed in Washington
between the Israelis and the Palestinians on Friday October 23,
1998: Support 42.5% Oppose 45% No Opinion 12.5%

2. What is your position regarding amending the Palestinian
Charter? Favor 25.5% Oppose 61% Noncommittal 13.5%

3. In light of the Washington agreement, what is your position
regarding military operations?
Support 31.9% Oppose 43.9% Noncommittal 24.2%

4. How do you think Yasser Arafat's status will change?
Improve 34.3% Weaken 32.4% No change 33.3%

5. Is Israel serious about implementing all the provisions of the
agreement? Yes 21.3% No 68.1% Noncommittal 10.6%

6. Are you satisfied with the performance of the Palestinian
negotiating team at Wye Plantation?
Yes 32.8% No 51% Noncommittal 16.2%

7. How will the daily life of Palestinian citizens change as a
result of the most recent agreement?
Improve 25.5% Worsen 26% No change 48.5%

8. How would you term the stance of American President Bill
Clinton? Positive 38% Negative 36% no reply 26%

9. Do you trust Benjamin Netanyahu?
Yes 9.2% No 84.1% No reply 6.7%

10. How do you rate the performance of the Palestinian Authority?
Very good 11.4% Good 16.8% Average 33.2% Poor 32.3% No opinion 6.3%

11. How has your support for the Palestinian Authority changed
since the signing of the agreement?
